Imagine the majesty of the West Maui mountain range, its verdant valleys and peaks rising above the vast blue of the ocean and sky. Now imagine yourself in the middle of this natural beauty sitting atop a graceful horse as you gently make your way across the landscape and through Hawaii's history.
The historical ride meanders from Makila Plantation about 1 1/2 miles (2.4 km) up and into Launiupoko Valley, revealing expansive views of the Pacific Ocean, the islands of Kaho'olawe, Lana'i and Moloka'i, and picturesque Lahaina Harbor. The leisurely pace allows you to take advantage of many photo opportunities. Riders are often treated to sightings of the rare Hawaiian owl (pueo) plus a variety of songbirds and coveys of francolin quail. Throughout the ride, the trail guide shares trivia, history, and lore about Hawaii.
During the sunset ride, you get all of the above experiences combined with some of the most gorgeous sunsets in the world!
