Let's take a horseback ride into the past, to a time and place that have survived the ravages of progress. Listen to the stories told by the guides, of the history of their ancestors as they lived, loved, worshiped and died in battles defending this land of their forefathers. The guides are direct descendants of Hawaiians who were tied to this land before the coming of Western culture.We want to share the stories of our people and their tie to the land because we see it as a way to preserve our past. Horses are the only means of traveling over the rugged mountain terrain into the pristine upper valleys. Here is the land of ancient Hawaii. Drive East on Highway 36 (Hana Hwy) from Kahului toward Hana (36 turns into 360, then into 330 as you pass Hana). Continue past Hana one mile beyond O'heo Gulch (7 Pools). Turn left approx. one block past mile marker 41 to Maui Stables.
