"One shark swam very close and we really met eyes"

When we arrived at Haleiwa Harbor at 6:30am, a boat with a cage attached to it was arriving at the front row loading dock. It was ridiculously easy to find, and parking was easy too - right next to the bathrooms immediately after you pull into the harbor. There were two on crew and a captain - all friendly guys with relaxed attitudes. The boat we went out on was about 45 feet LOA and was a solid aluminum/steel trawler style boat with a broad bow. I thought to myself, “Wow, I bet they have crashed through some huge surf before…this thing is solid like a rock.” The boat goes about 3 to 4 miles offshore, buoys mark a mooring and they move the cage from the stern mounting to the port side loading exit of the boat. We climbed inside and there were at least 6, maybe 8 big sharks right in front of me. I was shocked how close they got and how graceful they are. The crew put some plastic bottles on the water to try to bring them to the surface and the sharks did not really ever bite them, it almost looks like a kiss, or maybe just a nibble. One shark swam very close and we really met eyes. I remember looking deep into his and he was definitely looking into mine. This tour is definitely worth the money.
