Maui is the whale-watching capital of the Pacific, and there is no better way to see them up-close than on a Pacific Whale Foundation Whale Watch Cruise. The locals lovingly refer to the waters off Lahaina as "Whale Soup", because there are so many Humpback Whales in the area each winter. If you are in Hawaii during whale season, this is a "must-do" experience, once or even a few times, during your visit.
Details
Every winter, pods of humpback whales migrate from the chilly Alaskan waters to Maui’s summery shallows, a swim of over 3,000 miles (4,828 km.). Anywhere from 1,500 to 3,000 whales appear in the Hawaiian waters every year, fluking, spy hopping, spouting, and playing. Board a state-of-the-art, eco-friendly catamaran for a thrilling 2-hour cruise with a whale expert.
This is an eco-friendly tour! Help the environment as you play in the natural beauty of Hawaii.
The Pacific Whale Foundation Eco-Adventures uses only biodegradable and compost-ready plates, utensils, napkins, cups, and bags onboard all six of its vessels.
These products are made from either sugar cane waste pulp, potato starch, or corn starch. All of these materials are renewable resources, as well as being petroleum and “tree-free.” They all biodegrade in 60 to 120 days in a home composting facility and conform to FDA guidelines for food use.
The catamaran fleet is equipped with SmoothCat technology for a smooth, comfortable ride. The eco-friendly design features protect sound-sensitive whales, dolphins, and other marine animals. Boats out of Ma’alaea Harbor are powered by Maui BioFuel, and eco-friendly alternative fuel made from recycled vegetable cooking oils.
