Journey to the cloud-wreathed summit of the dormant volcano Mount Haleakala and explore Haleakala National Park and Visitor Center. A scenic drive through central Maui and the Iao Valley completes this full-day, guided adventure—a revelation of exotic sights, flora, and fauna.
Details
Ascend Mount Haleakala, the “House of the Sun,” where the demigod Maui’s grandmother helped Maui capture the sun. The unparalleled view of Maui from the volcano’s summit stretches from arid desert to lush tropical paradise and continues into the horizon. With luck, the rare state bird of Hawaii, the Nene, will make an appearance.
Containing many pieces of Maui’s 19th century history, Wailuku preserves bygone eras, from the population boom of the 1850s agricultural revolution to the prehistoric era of Hawaii’s native royalty.
The dense vegetation of Iao Valley whispers in the warm, humid breeze on the tour’s last stop. The fertile valley holds significant historical importance as well as incredible natural beauty—the native protea flower dots its landscape.
