Scores of Hollywood movies have been filmed on Kauai, but none tops the celebrity of the 1950s hit musicalSouth Pacific. When Director Josh Logan chose Kauai as the principal location for the film version of the long-running Broadway play, the island's stunning photogenic image received a huge boost as national publications scrambled to publicize the film. The movie put Kauai on the map as a major film location for Hollywood producers, and movie-goers found their Bali Hai. The show is a classic featuring the works of Rodgers and Hammerstein.
