Gaze upon sweeping views of the island of Kauai from atop Kilohana Crater, rising 1250 feet (381 meters) above the surrounding island. Ride your way down the gently-sloping sides of the crater, getting a first-hand look at the different types of plants and wildlife on the island as the vegetation changes from sugar to rat berries, guava trees, and a pine and bamboo forest. Wild orchids dot the side of the road as you travel through various rest areas and viewpoints that provide 360-degree views of the island. During the journey down the side of the island your guide describes the history of the Hawaiian islands, how they were formed, the story of the Polynesians that settled the island, and the culture of the islands today. Travel through the cane tunnel, a remnant of the islands role in World War II, and see the corn and coffee farms that form the agricultural backbone of the islands. End the trip on the rugged Mahaulepu coastline and pristine beaches that line the ocean shores before returning to Koloa, Hawaii's oldest plantation town.
